Postdoctoral Associate in Molecular Microbiology

Seeking a postdoctoral associate to work on studies involving bacterial predators (bacteriophage, protists,
Bdellovibrio like organisms and others). The ideal candidate will be able to contribute new ideas to
experimental methodologies. Expertise required in molecular microbial ecology and experience in DNA
extraction and purification, PCR, qPCR, and use of bioinformatic tools and software such as mothur, R
and/or Perl programming. Skilled in independent analysis of microbial community structure using 16S
rRNA and metagenomics. Enumeration and characterization of bacteria by plating methods, quantitative
real-time PCR, and epifluorescence microscopy. The qualified candidate must be able to carry out these
techniques independently. Also required is experience in basic bacteriological techniques such as
culturing, isolation, maintenance of lab culture collections, etc. Enumeration of protists and viruses in
marine environments is preferred. Experience in flow cytometry and light and electron microscopy is a
plus. Applicants should be experienced in conduct of microbial ecology field and laboratory experiments.
A vehicle and license to operate a vehicle in the U.S. is mandatory. Laboratory management skills and
