The School of Molecular & Cellular Biology (SMCB) and the Department of Microbiology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for two teaching positions in the disciplines of microbiology, genomics, and bioinformatics at the rank of Lecturer. The successful candidates for these positions will develop and teach online and face-to-face courses in the area(s) of their expertise. These courses will be the foundation of a new Master of Science in Microbial Systems Analytics degree program currently under development in SMCB in collaboration with the Microbial Systems Initiative. One Lecturer will be responsible for development and subsequent delivery of graduate-level courses featuring material on topics such as biostatistics, bioinformatics, microbial genomics, functional genomics, and microbial systems biology. The second Lecturer will be responsible for development and subsequent delivery of graduate-level courses featuring material on topics such as molecular genetics, microbial cell biology, microbial chromosome and DNA metabolism, and microbe-host interactions.
Required Qualifications
PhD in microbiology, bioinformatics, genomics, data science, or systems biology or closely related area.
Teaching experience at the college or university level in microbiology, bioinformatics, genomics, data science, systems biology, or related areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of experience developing online and in-person courses at college or university level
Two years of experience teaching at the college or university level
Discipline-based Education and/or Pedagogical Research experience
Evidence of instruction that includes student-centered and inclusive practices
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time non-tenure track position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
