Assistant Teaching Professor – Honors

The University of Missouri, Honors College, is looking to hire an Assistant Teaching Professor in STEM or related discipline. 

Founded in 1958, the Honors College currently enrolls 2,700+ students and features an alumni base of over 13,000 graduates. The College currently houses a small but growing number of Honors faculty and works with over 75 Honors affiliated faculty to offer over 200 unique courses per year. The College serves a diverse group of high-achieving students, with majors in nearly every discipline from Art to Engineering, so that they can excel in all facets of their education, and become engaged in a pursuit of life-long, interdisciplinary learning. We provide a rich and dynamic environment, fully engaged in all of the intellectual and interpersonal dimensions of a student’s life – scholarly inquiry, research, creative endeavors, and post-graduate success.

The Assistant Teaching Professor in Honors will:

  • Revise and teach in the 2-semester GN_HON Science Sequence.
  • GN_HON 2461H (Environment: From Molecules to the Cosmos) and GN_HON 2462H (Energy: From Particles to Civilizations) are designed to introduce students to some of the important big ideas in science. These courses integrate innovative ideas from biology, astronomy, chemistry, geology, and physics, and explore their importance in today’s world.
  • Coordinate and Expand the series above, by recruiting additional faculty.
  • Promote the series to non-STEM students in A&S, Journalism, Education, etc.
  • Develop additional interdisciplinary science courses accessible to non-STEM majors and which help promote science literacy to non-STEM majors.
  • Participate in Honors College recruitment and retention activities as part of a growing faculty.

Position and coursework will begin in August of 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences, biochemistry, microbiology, chemistry, plant sciences, animal science,  science education, or other related STEM disciplines by start of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • Excellent teaching record.
  • Interest in teaching interdisciplinary science to students pursuing non-STEM degrees.
