Dr. Jessica Scoffield, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine. Dr. Scoffield received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology from Tuskegee University and her doctorate in Microbiology from Auburn University in 2012. Dr. Scoffield completed her postdoctoral training in the department of Pediatric Dentistry at UAB. Dr. Scoffield’s lab studies the role of commensal bacteria in pulmonary and oral polymicrobial infections. Dr. Scoffield was awarded a National Institutes of Health Pathway to Independence K99/R00 grant in 2016 and became the inaugural recipient of the American Association for Dental Research and Procter & Gamble Underrepresented Faculty Research Fellowship in 2019.
