John Francis Brooks II, Ph.D. is a HHMI Hannah Gray Fellow in Dr. Lora Hooper’s lab at UT Southwestern. Here, he is interested in understanding how circadian rhythms synchronize with the microbiota to regulate host innate immune functions. Prior to his postdoctoral fellowship, he performed his graduate training with Dr. Mark Mandel at Northwestern University, where he examined bacterial genes required for the symbiont, Vibrio fischeri, to colonize its animal host, the Hawaiian bobtail squid, Euprymna scolopes.
