Assistant Professor, Infectious Disease

The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology in the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech has an open 9-month faculty position in infectious diseases tenure-track, Assistant Professor level. This position involves research and teaching. The department and college have a strong, vibrant nationally, and internationally recognized infectious diseases research program. The instructional responsibilities will be to teach in the graduate and undergraduate program consistent with the candidate’s and college’s focus. Evidence of infectious diseases research and ability to establish an independent research program is required with background in the following areas especially encouraged: zoonotic bacterial infections, antimicrobial resistance, microbiomes and microbiome-focused therapeutics, BSL3-pathogens, ecology of infectious diseases. The candidate will be joining a progressive department and college that have a strong infectious diseases-oriented faculty. The VMCVM has a long-standing CDC approved Select Agent Biosafety level 3 research facility (IDU). A broad range of animal research with both bacterial and viral BSL3/BSL2 agents are being conducted in the IDU. The college has available recently-renovated laboratory space and state-of-the-art core facilities, including the BSL2 and BSL3 laboratory spaces and ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 facilities for in vivo infection and challenge studies. In addition, there is a vibrant infectious disease program in the University.
