Rachel Burckhardt PhD

Rachel is a bacterial physiologist and earned her PhD researching how bacteria cope with different types of stress. Specifically, Rachel studied how Gram-positive bacteria modify their metabolism to deal with nutritional limitations and what enzymes are responsible for modifying and inactivating antibiotics found in the environment. Rachel’s work has important implications for future antimicrobial drug design. She currently works at the American Society for Microbiology as a Scientific Literature Reviewer. Rachel connects scientists to the latest research on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 by reviewing and selecting top articles for our COVID-19 Research Registry.
